Killer Housewife GuideBook

Based on manuals for housewives in the 1950s (these actually existed — what?!), this book takes on a sinister tone when you discover that it’s actually a guide for how the reader can covertly murder her husband, hide the body and skip town in a disguise.

Digitally illustrated using Procreate & Adobe Illustrator, laid out in InDesign, then printed, cut & assembled in my home studio.

Digital Files

This project was left very open-ended and I was asked to create a printed book with die-cuts, spot gloss & metallic ink effects. I came up with this elaborate concept and struggled quite a bit with how exactly I could make my vision a reality.
After much trial and error, I settled on this particular style of digital illustration with retro colors & Ben Day dots. I had so much fun incorporating subtle sinister details (the recipe & butcher pages are my favorite), especially in contrast with the cheery narrator. I also couldn’t help but add some commentary on the amount of work that was expected of housewives during this time period.
